Their world is closer than you think.
Upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures.
I always thought aboutĀ The Spiderwick ChroniclesĀ books as something that expanded on the magic ofĀ Harry Potter. I used to see them on the bookstore shelves around the time that theĀ Goblet of FireĀ was published. I never bought them back then, so when I first saw the movie in 2008, I loved it. After reading the books, I discovered that the movie suffered theĀ A Series of Unfortunate EventsĀ treatment, meaning that a couple of the books in the series were adapted into a single film. In comparison, it lacked some depth, the character development was rushed, and the final confrontation was less dramatic. In spite of this, the movie is still very entertaining. I especially like the production design. All the creatures are carefully done. Freddie’s performance is great. I’d say that it’s still one of the best fantasy films of the XXIĀ century.
