Under the Skin was on my to-watch list for many years. Finally, I gave myself time to experience this movie. I have to say that I didn’t understand anything.
For starters, I had to watch it in two parts. I found the first part intriguing, but then it turned repetitive. The second part bored me a bit, I wanted to get to the end to find out what was all about. In the end, I had more questions than at the beginning. Does this mean that it’s a good movie?
Probably my favorite shot is when we see the ant close-up that opens the film. The beach scene is shocking. I also liked the photography a lot, especially in the last scene. And that’s everything that I remember at the moment.
The first thing I did after watching the movie was to search for some reviews and information to try to clear my general confusion. I found, surprisingly, that a lot of critics think this is a masterpiece, they even compare it with Kubrick’s films. Really!? I thought. And I was here falling asleep during the film. Now it turns out that it’s an extraordinary analysis of human nature, our concepts of beauty and who knows what else. I don’t know if I lack the intellect to understand this movie, or if I just chose the wrong way and time to watch it. I’ll definitely analyze it more carefully in the future.
If you’ve seen it already? What did you think about it? Do you think it’s one of the best films ever?
